The EC proposes to cut funding to Hungary

1 min read

On September 18, the European Commission made a proposal to reduce Hungary’s financing from EU funds. The amount of financial payments estimates at approximately 7.5 billion euros. The EC explains its position with concerns about ensuring democratic rights and freedoms in the country. Another reason could be the threat of corruption and misuse of money.

Now, the EC’s proposal must be approved by a “qualified majority” in the EU Council (at least 55% of votes). Hungary will be the first country to face such radical measures.
