North Korea: New Nuclear Weapons Law

1 min read

North Korea adopts a new law that allows for a “preemptive nuclear strike” in the event of a “threat from hostile forces.” The new law is worded verbatim as follows: “If the system of command and control of the national nuclear forces is threatened by an attack of the enemy forces, a nuclear strike is immediately and automatically launched.”

Such changes may indicate rising levels of hostility in the region. North Korea continues to react sharply to the expansion of the arsenal and range of South Korean weapons and the joint training operations with the US military.
